first impressions

Hi, All!!!!

We had our first class session today. It was amazing! I'm learning already and enjoying watching how the teachers teach and the students learn. My impression of the students who (I'm guessing) were coming at this with no previous Hebrew is that after our one four-hour day they are already beginning to be comfortable with the language - more so than many people after even a semester or so learning deductively. It's hard to say, of course, since I'm in my brain and not theirs :) but that's my impression. Today was all listening and responding physically. I don't think we begin speaking until after a week or so.

We have the rest of today for study (much homework!) and rest. It is nice to feel a little more "settled" after a week of non-stop running! Although at the same time that week of touring the land was better than anything I could have expected and set a great foundation for six weeks of study.

The internet connection here is very weak and very slow. It looks like I can receive but not send email, and on the blog I can post notes like this but not photos. I will explore at some point and see if I can find a stronger connection to post some pictures.

You can pray for me that I will receive all that the Lord has for me here, adjust to the tight quarters and shared space, and be a blessing to my new friends.

Hope you are all doing well.

Love,
Erin :)

  • God has you there for a reason -- He will be a "light unto your path," and reveal to you as He will. Your very strong faith will keep you focused on Him . . . and lessen the unsettling feelings of close quarters and sharing space with others. Perhaps God will use this for His purposes!! That will be my prayer for you!

The classes sound awesome! I went online and saw a video of the classes in action -- they look like so much fun! How come none of my classes were ever like that? This is an excellent method for teaching language -- it should become the universal standard.

Must be getting close to bedtime for you now (it's 4 p.m. here). We are still without refrigeration, but have called someone else, who is scheduled to come Wednesday.

This is "yard sale week" -- getting the last of sale items to Nana's, have to go downtown and get the permit, put an ad in the paper. Pray that it goes well, doesn't get rained out, and that we are still alive after it's over! :)

    I love you, Erin.
